The mopeds and motorcycles are different, and although they have a similar appearance and the advantages of moving in any of them are practically the same there are certain details that make them quite different and need to be taken into account.

The type of vehicle, the size of the engine, the maximum speed reached or the type of roads on which they can circulate are some of the characteristics that support the premise that a moped is not a motorcycle .

What is a moped?

Mopeds are a cheap and comfortable means of transportation. But being less visible and more fragile than the rest of the vehicles makes us have to take extreme precautions when driving.

The characteristics of a moped with a regulated power, displacement and maximum speed differ from a motorcycle.

The displacement is less than 50 cc., And maximum speed not greater than 45 km / h.

They can have two, three or four wheels.

To be able to drive them you must pass a psychotechnical test .

Pass a theoretical and practical test of the Traffic Headquarters. Although if you have driving license B it is no longer necessary

You must be over 15 years old, although you will not be able to transport a companion until you are 18 years old.

Regarding compulsory insurance, you must have it, and must also pass the ITV .

What is a motorcycle?

On the other hand, a motorcycle, commonly known as a motorbike, is a 2-wheeled vehicle, and some with a sidecar equipped with an engine.

The characteristics are:

It must have a displacement greater than 50cc, although there are models of even 1,200cc. Its engine, which is generally 2 or 4-stroke, must be able to propel it at a maximum speed of more than 45 km / h.

Given the breadth of engines and powers available to equip motorcycles, the regulations stipulate various types of licenses, depending on the age, experience and knowledge of the driver .

Like mopeds, you have to pass a psychotechnician and pass the theoretical and practical tests of the Traffic Headquarters.

In order to know, in short, what difference exists between a motorcycle and a moped , we can indicate that mopeds are vehicles intended for short trips, usually urban, and require very basic knowledge to operate. On the other hand, motorcycles are much heavier vehicles and equipped for long trips that require to be handled by more experienced drivers and who, unlike mopeds, must have passed a knowledge test .

But, in any case, both are required to have, at least, the mandatory insurance and for this I like better than having expert advice.
